What is aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils for the harmonisation of physical and mental health. Essential oils are used to reinforce the naural healing process. It is a natural method that is based on the activity of essential oils's biochemical molecules.
What's an essential oil?
An essential oil is the extracted volatile essence of aromatic plants by distillation with steam as the drive element. After the distillation of an aromatic plant, a complex plant extract is obtained: each essential oil contains a large range of biochemical molecules that characterise it. Essential oils have a subtle power health: they act both on body and on the mind. For ages, human civilisations have had faith in aromatic plants for treatment purposes. The traditional properties of essential oils today are studied and proven effective by scientific aromatherapy.
How to use essential oils?
Essential oils can be use in several ways and with different purposes.
In massage, essential oils are diluted into plant oil or cosmetic support for localised application. Pure essential oils can sometimes be used for certain disorders.
In diffusion, the aromatic molecules are dispersed into the air for inhaling, their benefits or for cleansing a space.
Orally, minor amounts of essential oils are introduced according a precise dosing and therapist recommendations in order to support the organism.

How to recognise a good quality essential oil?
All pranarôm's CTEO essential oils are guaranteed 100 % pure and natural. They have not been denatured, rectified or ”lengthened” in order to increase their output. Pranarôm controls every production stage of its essential oils.
In partership with farmers, Pranarôm selects the plants cultivated in natural or bilogical quality. Certain plants thatcannot be cultivated are gathered in the wild in compliance with local regulations.
The distillation is rigorously controlled: it must meet the most demanding quality standards (water quality, tool quality, steam pressure, and distillation period control).
The essential oil's biochemical composition is analysed in laboratory by chromatography.

What means the label CTEO?
The essential oils Pranarôm have the CTEO (Chemotyped Essential Oils) seal of appoval, your guarantee of safety and efficacity. The distilled plant is botanically defined. The part of the distilled plant is specified (e.g leaf, flower, root...). The chemotype (or biochemical race) is definited.
Each chemotyped essential oil (CTEO) is unique. We inform you as well as we can on its quality by means of important information that reproduced on the packaging:

Organic or not?
Organic essential oils originate from organic farming and have been certified organic by an independant body according to the regulations in force. By choosing an organic essential oil, you descriminate in favour of this agriculture mode and you guarantee yourself a total absence of controversial chemical agents. Organic essential oils are note inevitably ”better” than the others from a therapeutic point of view. Moreover, it should not be forgotten that certain plants are collected in the wild and cannot be certified organic, but they are no less 100 % pure and natural. The choice of organic is therefore above all en ethical choice. In order to enable you to make this choice.
Can I put essential oils directly into bath water?
No, essential oils should never be dropped directly into bath water. Essential oils don’t dissolve, and float instead to the water’s surface. Because they are merely related to fats, and human skin is composed of fats, an essential oil can cause severe irritation if it comes into direct contact with the skin. It is best to mix the oil with a base to ensure it dissolves, or to use a bath product containing essential oils.
Can I use essential oils in an oil-burner?
An oil-burner is not considered the best way to use essential oils because the heat disturbs the oils’ therapeutic qualities. To get the best results from your oils, use a diffuser, which functions without heat. A diffuser can be used to promote relaxation and well-being, as well as a home air-purifier to prevent illness during an epidemic.
What are the precautions for use of essential oils?
- as precautionary measure CTEOs should be used in the first three months of pregnancy. Only the aromatherapist doctor can take this responsability
- after a massage or skin application, always wash your hands
- never inject essential oils intravenously or intramuscularly
- use high-quality 100 %) essential oils from a reputable brand
- keep containers out of children's reach
- person with allergies should take the precaution of allergy testing for CTEOs
- pure CTEO should never be applied to the eyes, nose, ear, canal or anogenital areas
- in the event of accidental absorption or instillation, ingest or apply a heavy oil to dilute the CTEO (olive, sunflower) then contact the poison control centre
- essential oil of peppermint should never be applied over large areas beacuse the chilling reaction it causes. This essential oil is strictly contra-indicated in pregnant and lactating women as well as babies under 30 months of age
- essential oils are always insoluble in water. For this reason, you must use four parts of an emulsifying dispersant for every part of CTEO to disperse the essential oil in a glass of water or in your bath for your greatest satisfaction
How should we store the essential oils?
- the container should be stored in a temperature ranging from 5 C to 40 C.
- the container should be in either coloured glass or aluminium.
- the container should always be sealed with a watertight stopper to prevent evaporation.
- under these conditions, pure and natural CTEOs will keep for at least 5 years (Citrus essences keep for a shorter period (3years)
Aromatherapy and information about it should never be used to replace a doctor’s visit.
